I have been riding about 70 miles per week and have signed up for the Gran Fondo in Philadelphia this August. I would appreciate any ideas as to what a reasonable training program should be.

Just ride, ride , ride. I decided to bike across the country in 2000, so I started cross country skiing in January, then switched to the bike early March. By late May I was up to 70-80 miles each Saturday and Sunday. The ride began June 20, and our first century was 3 days later, no problem. Here's my journal

Gaining endurance is the toughest thing to gain, and easily lost. Get in some bigger more challenging miles, like 50 miles then 70. Once you know you can do 80, then you can also do a century. Long distance rides or races are ALL about what you eat along the way. Eat something every 45 minutes. A gel, sports bar, boiled red potatoe, etc.

Good at the Fondo!
