  1. Hey guys,

I have recently gotten into cycling and am looking to get off of my Jamis Coda Comp 2010 to a true road bike. I want an entry level bike preferably $1000<. I am 6'4" 190lbs. What sizes, brands, accessories do you recommend for biking strictly on the road for the first time?

  2. Most bike shop brands are going to be comperable across their respective ranges. In fact, many of these brands are made side by side in the same factory. Most of the bikes feature similar or sometimes exactly the same equipment spec. Go to your local shop and see what they have to offer. The open ended question of which bike should I buy is very similar to which girl should I date. You are only going to get someones opinion of what you should get, not which may be the best for you. Better to narrow it down to 2 or 3 models and list the components of the choices and folks who have experience with those components can chime in.

The bike shop will be able to help with correct size. Otherwise youre just getting the plain vanilla answer which someone has just looked up on a sizing chart on the internet, which you could just as easily get to by typing in 'bicycle sizing chart' at yahoo (in CM).

Otherwise, buy a bike that you liked the feel of during the test ride, and that you liked the look of. At 190, you don't really have any special weight considerations.

A helmet, bike shoes/pedals, a taillight, a puncture repair kit, a mini pump or CO2 (or both) and some good bike shorts are all helpful accesories.

Good luck! It's an exciting thing.

  3. Thanks a lot, I think I will be heading down to my local bike shop within the week.
