  1. I bought one of these helmet mirrors:
    http://www.cycleaware.com/products/reflex.php

On my first ride I lost the little mirror, which pops out easily. So I
glued another mirror in its place.

Now the metal wire rotates in the base mount. But I can't figure out
how to dissassemble the base mount in order to fix it. Does anyone here
know how to tear this thing apart?

    Thanks for your help.

I'd return it. Two defects out of the box (practically) are two too many.

I use the "Third Eye" brand -- PITA to clamp on to helmet but once attached
it's trouble free and provides excellent rear viewing. (The kind that
clamps on your sunglasses is OK, too, but didn't work with my frame(s).)

I asked the company how to disassemble the mount. Instead of telling me
they sent me a new mirror for free. CycleAware is great with customer
    service!
