Just thought I'd follow up my earlier post re the fixed cup that wouldn't
stay fixed, first and mainly to thank all for their help, and second, to
report (hopefully without jinxing it!) a successful resolution. In the end I
decided as a first resort to follow up one of the most simple suggestions,
cleaning all the threads really thoroughly (using hi-tech Fairly liquid, hot
water and an old toothbrush), then reassembling, ending up by clamping a big
set of mole grips on and hitting them with a claw hammer as hard as I could
without the mole slipping. I think the hammer might have given me just
another degree or two. Anyway, whether it was the cleaning or the brute
force, three days on it's still holding.
Just in case it might prove helpful to someone else in a similar
situation...
And thanks again.
