  1. Hi,

I've just converted my old 70s racer to a fixed wheel bike, and I'm
trying to get the chain setup right. I've read lots of articles about
it, which all make sense, but one thing confuses me: what is binding?!
What are the symptoms of a chain which is binding? Sorry if I am being
stupid but I could not find a description on the internet.

At the moment, I've adjusted it so it's just tight enough that, with
the bike in a stand, if I start to turn the pedals with my hand I can
turn it either way and the back wheel is engaged. Any slacker, and I
would be able to move the pedals slightly before I was actually turning
    the wheel.

However, the explanations all say I should expect half an inch of slack
in the chain, and this looks less than that...

Thanks in advance for your help,

    Miles
