Fox rear shock stroke length

Hi All,

I have a Kona Dawg, and I'd like to replace the Float R rear shock with a
DHX 5.0 coil-over. Here's my problem: the bike comes with a 7.875x2.0 in
the Float R. Fox only makes the DHX (this year) in 7.875x2.25. So, the
eye-to-eye is a fit, but the stroke is 1/4" longer. I'm not sure what
effect the stroke length has, exactly. It would seem that only 1/4"
wouldn't make much difference, however...maybe it would make a huge
difference and throw off the whole performance of my bike, or worse cause
damage. Anyway, I can speculate all day long, so I'm looking for a
definitive answer to how the longer stroke length might affect my bike.
Thanks a lot for any insight.
