frame size and seat height

just wondering what everyones opinion on this matter is, most bike makers are desigings there bikes with a small frame and long seat post. i dont really like the look of these type of bikes (mines more traditional).

The look like they are to small, a friend of mine syas they are really rigid, he has a giant

It's got to do with reducing the overall weight of the bike.
