I had a strange little incident today. I was accelerating off a stop sign and suddenly the chain is
just spinning, no power. Operator error, right? So I find a gear and get through the intersection,
but it keeps happening whenever I try to shift into my 4th smallest cog (on a 6-speed freewheel). I
stop, and look down, and the teeth are just missing. Everything else is in order. Two questions:
1) Has anyone else had this happen to them?
2) What probably happened to cause it? FWIW, I felt a little "slip" in that gear, like how it feels
right after you put on a freewheel and it's tightening while you're riding, shortly before the
incident. Also, this wheel was salvaged from a fairly old bike, and I'd ridden it about 20 miles
on the wheel.
Thanks for any ideas.
