Does anyone know of a Shimano compatible grip shifter that can be
converted to a friction shifter. I saw on a Yahoo question post that
some shifters can have a part removed to convert it into friction but
some won't work without it. Would the Shimano compatible SRAM grip
shifters work?

the back. I doubt that you could adapt a rear for friction shifting. The
ones I've seen rely on the detents to hold the shifter in place against
the derailer's return spring.
