front derailleur braze-on vs clamp?!?

My bike has Shimano 105, and the frame has a braze-on that the front
derailleur attaches to, rather than the clamp around the seat tube. Now as
far as I can see, the 105 derailleur is the same on both braze-on and clamp
versions, but the differenceis whether it's supplied with our without the
clamp...is this correct?

And secondly, what's the opinion if getting a frame made - should I opt for
the braze-on and thus not have the rather ugly (IMHO of course) clamp and
extra weight, or is this limiting? If the braze-on suits Shimano will I
somehow be limited in choice in the future to easily swap to Campag etc?

Cheers
