Front Mech Adjustment

Assuming there's no adjuster on the levers, just remove any slack at the
cable pinch bolt - it can help to push the derailleur over slightly when
you do this, so when it springs back it's touching the travel adjusting
screw and there's no slack in the cable but also no tension. Or you
could fit an in-line cable adjuster like this:

With Shimano STI levers where the gear cables come untidily out of the side
of the hood, it's possible to put an in-line adjuster into the loop of
bare cable; this is also sort-of possible with Campag or SRAM levers by
putting the adjuster between where the cable exits from the bar tape and
the frame stop, but clearly less tidily. Otherwise, for the rear you'll
just have to rely on the adjuster on the derailleur body, and for the
front you'll just have to rely on trimming.

Many thanks for your help - the inline adjuster seems to be the way to go
