I am trying to compile a list of "urban" bicycles to choose from. This bikes should be tough, light, and durable, yet faster and more suited for commuting than MTBs.

Here are a few requirements:
-Fully rigid (no suspension)
-26" wheels (rather than 700c wheels of more road-like hybrids)
-Tires somewhere between slick and knobby, made primarily for road use but knobby enough to grip gravel and dirt
-Decent components ($300-$800 price range)

Any help coming up with more models is greatly appreciated!
I'll start the list:

Trek SU-100, SU-200
Marin Muirwoods, Novato
Novara Buzz

OK, a few:

Scott Sub, any number.
Giant Upland with Conti Ultra Gator Skin slicks and a 11-28 cassette.
Felt SR 101 47cm-650c

If I can think of more, i'll add them later. Don't rule out 650c wheels, they work with MTB front forks :D .

Gary Fisher Artemis

...does anyone have any opinions on which of the urban bikes offers the best value? The Marin Muirwoods seems to have the best components for the price, but alas, they only come up to 20" and I am 6'4". So I'm concerned that it won't be big enough.

I know it doesn't fit your requirements (700c wheels) but I just bought a Kona Dr. Dew... seems like the ultimate commuter to me. It's a little heavier built than most bikes that come from the road side, and with the disc brakes I think It'll be great. Can't give a great review yet, don't actually have the bike yet.
