Fund for pharma R&D proposed

Indraprasth (Pioneer News service) - Five years after the conception of the Pharmaceutical Research
and Development Committee, the Department of Science and Technology is finally putting forth a
proposal before the Union Cabinet for the establishment of a Pharmaceutical Research and Development
Support Fund (PRDSF).
The committee was set up in 1999 to recommend measures to strengthen the research and development
capability of the pharmaceutical industry in the country and for identifying the support required by
the Indian Pharmaceutical Companies (IPC) to undertake domestic research. For the year 2003-04, Rs
150 crore have been provided as a corpus for the PRDSF and Rs 10 crore for supporting the on-going
activities.
