I've heard sooo much about the Garmin Forerunner 305, and how I should wait for it to come out. Here it is, the end of March, and everybody tells me "it'll be here soon". Is there a problem with this watch? Is it really worth the wait...or does it still have limitations.

One of my ultra buddies has one (he's one of the top local guys, and sponsored -- I don't know if this is how he got it...), and we chatted about it on the trail this morning. He showed me some of the statistics it was keeping for todays run. He says the signal reception is great -- he hasn't had a problem with forested terrain, narrow canyons, etc. I think he said he can even get a signal in his house (is this possible?). He also says the heart rate monitor is very solid, with no funny readings and it is superior to his polar monitor.
Hi, I have just received my 305. Heart rate monitor doesn't work, Garmin are aware of the issue and say a software update will be available in around 7-10 days. They cant (or wont) say how many units have this problem. If I were you I would hold on for a bit. Also heard that around 10,000 units had their battery inserted incorrectly. I would be pretty suprised if it could get a signal from indoors.
