generic "human" insulin?

    Generic?" with a single pic showing a vial of name brand rDNA "human" insulin and a vial labeled
    "Acme "human" insulin"

    (i.e. unreadable handwriting 🙂)) are enclosed in braces

    the essence is this:

    because it affects only a small fraction of patients. The dilemma that regulators face is whether
    to require generics firms to conduct such large, lengthy and expensive trials -- thus effectively

    Hi Bill,

    I took a look at that one page report in SA. Looks interesting so I decided to research little
    generic pharmaceutical companies for possible investing. This is want I came up with:

    SICOR homepage: gensiasicor.comindex.html

    SICOR mfg site: gensiasicor.combiotechna.html

    This is a California based multinational company in merger talks with Teva, an Israeli generics
    company. Both companies are well established and have great track records.

    On the very small side with great potential, we have a Chicago startup named American Pharma
    Partners, Inc. They don't seem to be very far along and don't seems to have the protein rDNA
    manufacturing capability yet. But I'm sure they are looking at the patent expiration of human
    insulin as well.

    These organizations would also be good candidates for formulating beef, pork and semi-synthetic
    insulins much like USV-India is doing with AKZO-Nobel purified insulin crystals. So this could be
    another avenue for cost containment.

    highly doubtful

    if they get the green flag from the FDA, they'll go where the volume is. namely "human"-NPH, "human"-
    R, and the NPH/R mixes

    assuming that Lilly stops producing the lower volume insulins like "human"-U (and maybe "human"-L
    also), i'll be surprised if these generic companies take to producing U and/or L, let alone ever
    lower volume sellers like "human"-SL (SemiLente), not to mention "slimy" stuff that will take
    expensive marketing to sell
    (i.e. like beef insulin and pork insulin)

    jim, you're losing it

    the starting "raw" material for "semi-synthetic" insulin is pure pork insulin, for the simple reason
    that it is the one insulin with the 2 peptide chains identical (or very similar?) to real human
    insulin. any generic company that produces generic "human" insulin is only going to do a true
    synthetic product (read: rDNA) for generic "human" insulin
