flash guns can have fast recharge rate, fast enought, but to be honest
one flash would be enought.

No, the hand signal for slowing or stopping is raising and lowering your
right arm with the palm of your hand facing down.

True, but do you have any evidence for any (positive) change in driver
behaviour?

I sometimes do something like that, but at them, ie arm pointing
towards them not straight out, while looking at them. Generally seems
to work but they don't like it much. I think the response is
instinctive and then they wonder why they didn't ignore the gesture.

the population level, and anyway cycling is about as safe per mile as
walking.

Its best not to make any gesture as the driver seeing a cyclist using
hand signals will think he's gone though a time-warp to 1948

I point behind me and shout "speed trap". Works every time :)

No. Gesticulate at your peril unless you are confident that you can beat
your potential assailant to a pulp.

There are several drivers who have looked genuinely sorry and have said
that they will keep a better look out in future. Clearly, some may have
been lying but I suspect most just made genuine mistakes.

In my experience, the majority of motorists are people and the majority
of people have no intention to cause harm to others.

Cheers,
Luke
