This is pretty off topic, but I travel fairly often in the South and
with @OL you can pretty much sign on with dialup anywhere in the US,
which has been convenient for our family. More ISPs offer multiple
screen names which @ol has been allowing for a long time. This has a
lot of possible family benefits since everyone can have his own screen
name, etc. Our service has been very reliable. About the only thing it
doesn't offer is usenet access and back when they did, it was a dud.

I know absolutely nothing about AOL, but I can tell you that OE is the
greatest thing to come along since sliced bread. Frankly, I also like IE too
even though I regularly gets lots of viruses every time I use it. But let's
face it, Microsoft would not be as great as it is if it weren't doing
something right. The few Mac systems I have seen around do not seem to work
with anything much. Microsoft Windows is the only way to go and anyone who
tells you otherwise is a blooming idiot.

Now that you have gotten the word from on high by a computer user who has
been into this for a couple of years you can relax and go with the flow.
Yea, get Windows XP, the IE browser and the OE mail server. You might also
want the Windows Media Player too if you like music and radio. Now you will
have everything you will ever need. No charge! Just part of my noblesse
oblige to all the ignoramuses of the world.

No usenet, no use to me.
I have found the alt.binaries.'e-books (multiple groups)' to be almost
indispensable for downloading technical stuff and some random reading,
and hunt the railroad pictures group for old steam engine pics.
OE is indeed worthless to me so I use Thunderbird but it still has
shortcomings in the filter area. If you can't get direct access try some
of the free news sites, which while rare, do exist. Google Edisontel and
see what you get, since I found one called, I think, news.edisontel.com
(net?).
If you want to pay you can go to Giganews and get access to about
100,000 groups from around the world.
The world is full of choices.

AOL just plain stinks. I used them in the past. Now I use netzero with
proxyconn internet accelerator. I have had no connection problems since
switching from aohell. The total for the isp, accelerator and usenet is
still less than aol dial up.

Mozilla FireFox is far better than Internet Exploiter and if you stop
using IE then you will learn that MS is full of problems and you will
want to change you news client to something else as well. While
Thundebird may not be the best out there it is free and less prone to
security problems that plague Outleak Exploder.

forum. I use bentrideronline and like the way they keep trolls out. Now

posted to ten groups. I tried to hack it in with notepad and T-bird just
bounced the hand made kill file.

Agreed on just about everything there. I only use IE because Microsuck
forces you to use it for interactive updating. I turn on every
anti-virus, anti-spyware, and firewall program I have before using IE
and have never had a virus using Firefox or Thunderbird.

I haven't found a way to filter in the body of the message yet.
Hopefully someone will come up with an extension soon.
If I find E.D. too much in one thread then I just hit ignore thread.
The only thing about that is then I miss good posts as well.

That is only because a lot of sites are written to be most compatible
with IE and use the latest Java script, Active-X, etc., and that stuff
may look like nice eye candy, but it opens the door for virus attacks
and other nasties.
I am using Thunderbird now and your text does not have the bar, but
rather right arrows. It probably depends on what level of HTML or XML is
in the body of the message. I just looked at your source code and it
looks like just plain text, so no problem.
It all depends on what you want, V-8 or 4 cylinder.

What exactly do you not like about that. Mine has quoted text denoted
by a verticle bar that is color coded and the new text is up against the
left margin. That's not hard to read.
