My bro is on the hunt for a bike at around £300-400 .. he wants a mountain bike to go mud plugging. He lives south of Guildford and works in Paddington. Anyone recommend a LBS that does last year models? He's thinking GT or Specialized, not sure why, but that's what he says.

I've had a couple of good last years model deals from Bonthrone Bikes, and I suppose Fulham is more or less between Paddington and Guildford. They do do GT, I'm not sure about Specialized. After a quick look at their web site it looks like they have '05 GT Ruckus bikes with a considerable discount - that may well be suitable for mud plugging.

Thanks Jim, I'll forward that on to him. I see Evans are also off loading 2005 models.

Just looked at the Evans website. Please don't let him spend 400 squid on the Evans '04 GT Ruckus 3.0 when the '05 2.0 is the same price elsewhere...
Also, with even cheaper GTs, you sometimes have to watch out that their marketing department haven't had a say in the rear hub, making it a freewheel not a cassette.
