Giant OCR 1 or Trek 1500 - What to purchase?

I am looking to purchase one of these two bikes. Does anyone have any
comments on either bike? I need to keep the cost under $1,000.

Thanks in advance.

I can't speak to the Giant (aside from my dislike of the idea that people
only come in small, medium & large sizes), but the 1500 has been a very fine
bike for us. Nothing fancy, just stuff that works very well, a very nice
light frame (domestically produced; the least-expensive TREK road bike built
in the US), strong wheels etc. It also has a lifetime warranty on the
frameset.

Best bet is to ride each, properly set up, and see how they feel. We've got
an article on our website that might help you figure out the differences
between one bike and another, as well as the shops themselves (and it's
actually brand & material neutral).

When I was shopping, the Trek 1500 was one of my leading candidates.
It presents a very good component mix for the price. I compared the
Trek 1500, LeMond Alpe d' Huez, LeMond Tourmalet, Specialized Allez
Elite, Giant OCR 1 and Klein Aura V. I rode a 61cm on all models,
except the Trek, which I rode a 63cm (the Giant was simply "large")...
Trek apparently measures differently. I was close to buying the Alpe
d' Huez, but it was $300 more than the Trek for a similar component
group, and tied with the Klein for the most expensive bike I was
looking at, and the Klein has carbon seat stays. The Tourmalet is
more in line with the price of the Trek 1500. In the end, I wound up
getting a steal on a '03 LeMond Arrivee Ti ($1399), but I learned a
lot while shopping.

Ride them. Ride all the bikes that you can that are in your price
range. Make sure that they are sized properly and setup correctly for
you. Ride them as many times as you think you need to make sure.
Then buy the one that you like the best. It really is that simple.

Isn't the 1200 also built in the US?

The 1200 frame is painted and the bike assembled in the US, but the frame
itself is actually produced overseas.
