Hi,

Im a newbie when it comes to mountain biking so thought this would be a good place to look for advice :) I'm taking up mountain biking and am looking for a suitable bike to meet my student budget (no more than £250), be suitable for getting me to uni (9.6km along main roads) but also be suitable for off road as i want to ride it in trails (main requirement!!)

I am keen on the Giant Rincon and was wondering what people's experiences are with this bike. Good / Bad / indifferent? :)

Thanks.

P.S Disk Brake's - what's the significance? Worth choosing a bike because of that alone?

I don't think I would choose a bike based on the fact that they have disc brakes. V-Brakes are fine, and when your stocked with cash you can always swap your v-brakes with disc brakes. I'd say you could buy a decent bike for $400 that would have anything you need. my bro's bike costed $200 and its a POS.

sorry, that's in american dollars. :)

If you have a choice between two bikes at the same price and the one has discs and the other doesn't, at your price level you're probably better off getting the one without. It will likely have a better set of components that will handle abuse better and last longer.

have only read good things about the Rincon, but looks like the 2004 model has better forks than the 2003..

Hi James. Yep that link is where I have been getting all my info for this bike from :) I have just bought this bike - and it is a classy piece of kit. The frame and components are good, considering the price.

From the research I have done, and looking at other bikes in this price range I would definately recommend this bike. It was the '04 model I got in Dream Silver.

I would recommed looking at Dales Cycles in Scotland:

They are a specialist company who REALLY know what they're talking about. Plus they do free 48hr delivery on all bikes in the UK

You've no doubt looked at the manufacturers website: but for completeness ... :D
