Giant Sedona Or Trek 7000

Newbie here and I am looking forward to buying either a Giant Sedona:

Sedona (Satin Black) (2010) - Bikes | Giant Bicycles | United States

or a Trek 7000:

Trek Bikes | Bikes | Bike Path | 7000

and I'm wondering which is better. Given the listed specs (dérailleurs, frame, etc.) and the brand loyalty behind the company, which bike should I purchase?

Any other suggestions within the price range would be greatly appreciated.

They are practically the same. The Giant is more off-road friendly with the suspension fork and 26" mountain bike wheels. The Trek is more road friendly with a rigid fork and 700c road bike wheels.
