About to buy one of the two. The Giant is about $200 cheaper. Aside from that, can anyone suggest
why I should buy one over the other?
Also, is it THAT hard to put racks on a bike with disc brakes?

able to be modified to fit to/around a disc mount (voiding all warranties) as it is tubular steel.
