I think there's actually supposed to be a bunch ride from Glenvale Cres that does exactly that. After all the racing is done some riders head down Springvale road and then down beach rd to Black Rock or St Kilda. Haven't actually been on that ride though.

    Sunday (Summer)
    Post Glenvale Cres Race Ride
After the A Grade and B Grade races are over and all presentations are finished a majority of riders will ride down Springvale Rd to the beach
(where it has become Edithvale Rd) and then along Station St to Mordialloc, then Beach Rd. The bunch usually stops for a Cafe Latte somewhere down Beach Rd (Black Rock or St Kilda). A very cruisy ride after the race, a time to talk about how you could have gone if only.....

    a few times..

    hehehe nice one! 😄
Wouldn't want to confuse people like me with right-hand turns. :P

I just noticed my front derrailer cable has frayed at the headtube, so
the Pug has gone to the shop for a bitofa pre-race service. Hopefully
    it's not a wasted effort 🙂

Hey Jaz.. how many beers is it gonna take to stop you winning in a
    breakaway? :P

Arhh.. cool.. now.. do I wear my Mascot Cycles kit, or do I pose in my Lotto
Davitamon jersey.. or show how last year I am in my Lotto Domo jersey.. oh
    the confusion!

    Where are these BR jerseys?

Looks like a nice BR route will be: Donny start as usual, then the route
suggested to Glenvale Cr, then how about following Springvale Rd after the
event down to Beach Rd then back through Mordi to the city? I might have to
get myself some aero bars and bootie covers to fit in on Beach Rd.. 😉 ..
I think that route should give us roughly the same kms as a normal BR..
    without the hills! woot!

    cheers,
    GPL

    What no hills????
Thats it I'm going to have to ride to the Dandys on sat.
But yeah that route sounds alright. I haven't been on beach rd for about 3 months.

Yep, no hills.. it will get the avge speed up! 🙂 .... I was thinking the
same, either hill up on sat or monday.. not sure where though.. might do a
1/2 BR.. even a loop from home, donny, Burgundy St...

I was thinking of doing a short BR on Monday (unlikely to get permission
for full ride). So was thinking usual route to Kangaroo Gd and then back
through Research (some good hills just prior to that), Eltham,
Templestowe along Foote St and High St which is part of the Tour of the
Suburbs ride (plenty of hills there). If anyone is interested I'm aiming
for usual time and place for the start.

  7. Was looking through the various websites for info on Glenvale and came
across the various veterans (that's age not war) cycling clubs in
Melbourne. I had a look and found that over 35 qualifies you for
veterans. At 38 I suddenly feel old. Anyone know what the veterans races
are like? Age-group triathletes at that age tend to be pretty
competitive, but ocean swims like Pier to Pub at that age I've found to
be almost sociable. So which would you expect from cyclists? Would the
serious ones stick with non-veterans races?

Also, I saw on the Eastern Vets calendar the METEC races during winter.
Seem to recall discussion on these last year (Hippy??) but they wouldn't
have been from a veteran perspective. Is it the same race just with lots
    of grades?

You'll get a mix. The really good ones will still compete in Opens but
there's some damn fine riders competing in Vets groups! Guess it depends
on their own schedule. Wasn't the Masters Games open to cyclists from
    age 32?

It's the same circuit, different time. They've been running them over
summer. One of the guys (Greg) who's also under the ABOC banner has been
doing quite well there. I think he placed second in the series overall?

    Circuit:

You'll have to speak to the vets for more info.

Permission.. what theeeeEee!? Note to self: no family, no kids, no
    worries..

Sounds good but now the ride on Sunday will lose its identity.. Sunday =
BR44a, Monday BR44b? Two early starts in a row doesn't make a long weekend
fun!.. I might as well make it three and do the 7am Mascot ride.. and before
you batter an eyelid at my perceived dedication to hardcoreness.. ask JayWoo
what he has planned for the next three days! C'mon summit man, speak up! 🙂

I could offer being Hippy's leadout man if it came down to a sprint finish.

I could just picture it now. Hippy's in a bad position coming into the back straight. I ride by him around the outside of the group and say "get on my wheel". Then I take him down the back straight around the outside of the bunch and into the finishing straight - totally spending myself, then Hippy launches for a spectacular win by two bike lengths.

Hippy, what speeds do you typically do in a sprint there anyway?

Shocking isn't it! How dare they label us... ;-)

The Pier to Pub *sounds* like a social swim... ;-)
Speaking for myself, I think competitive blokes are competitive blokes,
no matter how old they are. I've seen a 63 year old guy (former junior
state champion) barge his way to the front of the bunch sprint in a 'C'
grade criterium! Trust me, these guys race to win. What other reason
is there? That said, there is a social air before, after and sometimes
during the race which keeps me coming back.

There are some younger guys in the vets who still race in open classes,
but these guys are doing 600km a week. The rest of us have lives...and
    kids...

    Low 50's usually, at Glenvale.

Maybe? Or one of our speedos is out?
What is your wheel circumference measurement?

The crit I won was only mid-50's. Maybe I should be your leadout? 🙂

That's exactly what I'm saying. I don't have any spare cables. I walk in
say I want new cables, they fit 'em, I leave. Yes, I could just buy the
cables and come home and fit them but what's the point when the guys in
the shop do it while I wait? (This time they actually didn't do it while
I waited - so I had lunch down the street - but usually they do.)

    ok so it's free then?

It's a lack of consistently reliable bike shops that's made me become
    almost self sufficient.
