  1. Back when I started using Trainingpeaks I wandered into the heart rate/power zones section and set some initial goals for power ranges. Well, with today's PB on my local hill climb course I pretty much crushed most of the goals and it's only January 1st.

I'm curious what kinds of ranges of improvement you all expect to see over a season. I want to set goals particularly for the FTP range and the 30 minute range. Today's 20 minute max power on the climb was 353.

I don't intend to raise my FTP up from 320 using this value quite yet. If I used the .95 method it would shove me into the 330's and I know that the nature of the particular climb I was doing was a lot more standing/stomping/anaerobic than .95 of my functional threshold.

I hope to work a solid 1hr TT into the training plan soon - probably at the end of next week.

Anyway.. I'm sitting at 320 functional threshold, 350ish for 20 minute power. The 350 was 10 watts above my previous 20 minute goal.

Do you all even set goals for these or just take what you are getting and run with it?

Based on Kreuzotter's I'd need to get to around 381 watts average to get up my mountain in under 27 minutes, my goal time for Nov 25th of 2007. Is 30 watts on the 20 minute power that trainable?

As a first year power trainer, what kind of gains did you all see? Right now I think I'd make my FTP goal 350 watts. "Sounds" attainable - but that's coming from someone that has no clue, really. My 20 minute power goal of 385 watts (just for good measure and all). I'm at my goal weight of 77kg now.

  2. If I had your FTP I'd burn mine.🙂
