Was riding home on the SS today along the Yarra Trail and as I went over the bridge near Burke Rd there was a guy walking his bike the other way with a flat tyre on the front and clearly no spares. I thought I would do the right thing so I stopped to offer assistance. I asked him if he wanted a tube ( I always carry 2 ) and he said that he thought he might get away with just borrowing a pump as he only had about 5km or so to get home. I grabbed the pump out of the top of my bag and he started pumping but the tyre wasn't going up.
"It's stuffed mate" I said "just chuck one of my spares in and you'll be right...." as I was saying this I reached under my seat to grab the spares bag only to find that it wasn't there!!! Thats when I realised that the spares bag was sitting on the workbench at home as I had taken it off my other mtb this morning to put on the SS (it was raining so I took the low maintenance option) but then left it on the bench.
I apologised for stuffing up and getting his hopes up and then left him to walk home. Just to prove that the puncture gods have a sense of humour, my rear tyre deflated rapidly about 100m from home as I was cutting through the reserve like I always do. I guess it could have been worse........

At least he knows now to carry spares and he might be more likely to assist someone else, now that he's seen your attempted rescue.

that's my theory too. 'could be me one day needing help'. karma and all that... Did that on a RTB and lo-and-behold the bugger turns up on a BR! (slightly drier too 😄 )

Good on ya. Youse done good.
But clearly you do not have enough spares bags for number of bikes you have. My bikes have various different size tyres/tubes (27 x 1 1/8, 700c x 23, 26 x 1.25, and a mix of schraeder and presta valves) so I got sick of switching different tubes in and out of my seat bag whenever I went out on a different bike. Bought a seat bag for each bike. And each has a set of tyre levers, patches, basic tools in it as well.
