Can anyone advise me on which map to buy....I am primarily interested in the High Peak area UK...The usage will be for m/biking and walking...I have looked at Anquet and Memory map...Anquet seems to have the edge with slightly greater coverage...Is there anything else I should look for between the two before I buy ??.. Also my choice of gps unit is between the Garmin Geko 201 and the Etrex legend....Any comments appreciated..

I use the Etrex Legend (B/W not Colour) for both cycling and walking and find it does the job admirably. I have no experience of the other unit you mention so cannot comment I am afraid. As to mapping software the best bet is to download the trial version of each of them and try them out. I would also try Tracklogs (www.tracklogs.co.uk) if I were you - I prefer the interface it offers over the other two. One point which may sway you (on the other hand it may not ) is if you buy your GPS unit from Tracklogs they bundle a free site centred map (40K x 40K from your post code). Depending on where you live this may well be a good starter for you , especially if it covers the High Peak. I am unsure as to why Anquet would have greater coverage , I thought all of the products used maps under license from OS, although Anquet does have some Harveys maps available. One other point - if your sig is to be believed you may have a problem - as far as I am aware all these mapping products only run under Winoze.

Thanks for the reply.. I have just been looking at Tracklogs ...There is a lot of info on their site....The product is much cheaper than the two I mentioned which are both around £100 ,and Tracklog seems to do much the same thing... I think Anquet is based on the Harvey map and on their product the Peak Park is 25k and the surrounding area is 50k.. Ok on the sig...I have installed XP on a spare partition...It was a swine to install and seems equally hard to use but the Tracklogs gui seems quite easy ?? -- Regards Ted Wager Using Libranet Linux
