Guides on Building a bike from scratch

I am just thinking over on whether to dish out 1400 AUD for a roadbike or attempt at building one myself.

The way I see it is ROad bikes aren't the pinnacle of engineering complexity and putting one together yourself may save you a heap of $$$ that you would have otherwised payed for a brand name bike with the same components.

Say a CRX Zero, how much could one put a bike like that together for ?
I realize a brand name frame is probably not sold seperatly, thought I am sure there are plenty of better frames sold seperatly.

Are there any good guides on the net for building bikes ?
