Half-Link / Single Speed

Just to follow up a previous thread, I've seen half-links on Ebay, the
sellers of which claim will give the necessary scope for chain
adjustment if a frame only has vertical dropouts.

Can anyone confirm that's true, please? Or should I just keep
searching for an old racer.

Thanks, Ed.

A half link gives the equivalent of about 1/4" movement at the rear axle
- it can help with short horizontal dropouts, but probably isn't enough
for vertical dropouts.
