I have tried several hand crank and hand shake flashlights, with limited
satisfaction. First, they use a very small rechargeable battery, so they
have to be cranked often. Cranking while riding would be a real pain.
Because of the small battery, they are designed to give minimum illumination
as a tradeoff for more time between charges--no enough light to work well as
a headlight.

The advantage over wheel-driven generator light would be ease of
mounting--if'n it only worked.

In my experience, none of them provide enough runtime or light to be
worthwhile as a bike headlight. I do not expect this to change
anytime soon, if at all.
