I am looking for a new stem, but don't want to get a stem that won't fit my handlebars, i think i've seen stems that say they have a handlebar clamp area of 25.4, 25.8, and 26.00, those all seem pretty close to me, should all these sized pretty much go together, or does it really get that specific?

The .4 is normally for ATB bars, and .8 and .0 for road. They say .8 and .0 are interchangeable, but .4 is too significant. Most of the road stems I've seen are for .0, unless specifically oversized.

If you're not sure of the size of your current bar, have it measured. Even a small difference between clamp diameter and bar diameter can crush the bar causing it to fracture while you're riding.
