  1. Even if it's as rainy as November out here in Cow Hill, today is the
    first day of summer.

Holiday or no, we had mostly leftovers for dinner tonight: smoked
chicken on a bed of garlicky cole slaw with some leftover grilled
veggies. I did slice a fresh tomato.

We had almost 16 hours of daylight in Seattle on the Solstice, although
it rained a little in the AM. We grilled burgers. Unfortunately, that
evening we had to put our beloved younger cat, Jasper, to sleep. He had
cancer spread throughout his lungs. We gave him a few pieces of burger
and some Gerber baby meat before his last trip to the vet.

Same to you. It was a perfect day at 45N,77W. This is a day of
significance for this heathen farmer. I spent the afternoon with my
    flock of
chickens. They spent the day scratching for bugs, worms, fresh greens
    and
periodic handfulls of hot buttered noodles. A Mozart piano concerto
    from the
chicken coop CD player played in the background as this farmer
    listened to
white throated sparrows and various warblers sing arias and Bach type
fugues. I could almost see the potato plants grow. All of this was
accompanied by fizzy [censored] from Australia (Seaview sparkling plonk)
    and
Canadian Lakeport Honey Lager discount ale. Nibbles included freshly
    picked
asparagus in a tarragon vinaigrette and devilled eggs from the same
chickens. The temperature was just cool enough to keep the mosquitoes
    and
blackflies dormant. There are more bugs in one square mile of bush
    than
there are human beings on this earth. How can one describe 100 shades
    of
green against a deep blue sky? A perfect day. Great to be alive!

    Farmer John
