I'm looking for a headband that has something reasonably water resistant on the outside, wool on the inside and something like nylon or cotton against the skin. Something that fits under a snug helmet obviously :-) I can probably live without the water reaistant layer with just wool on the outside and a liner on the inside but windbreaking capability is nice to have for spirited descends. Currently I ride with the hood of the windbreaker under the helmet when it's cold/rains and while it works well it looks dorky and the glasses fog very easily. Need a better solution.

I'll second the balaclava idea...when it gets very cold here in New England I use a thin head band (I have a LeMond or a Nike, use whatever suits you) under a thin PolarTech/Microsensor/etc balaclava.....warm as toast no matter how fast you go. The headband keeps your ears warm, and the balaclava protects the rest of the head while wicking the sweat away.
