Notice: I'm sending this to [email protected] *AND* copying it to alt.rec.bicycles.recumbent -
This is to let the folks at hostelshoppe.com respond in a public forum. I've set up my servers to
refuse any email coming from Hostelshoppe, so any response will have to be done at
alt.rec.bicycles.recumbent. And if hostelshoppe tries to respond using any other means, they are
hereby warned that their response will be made public to the above-mentioned discussion group, and
to any other groups I decide to share their response with.

I own a domain name; let's call it "dontspammehere.com" for sake of argument. Any email sent to any
address that ends in "@dontspammehere.com" goes to one single mailbox that I use to filter out spam.
So whenever I sign up for *anything* online, like anything from hostelshoppe.com for example, I give
my email address as "[email protected]" so I will know where the spam is coming from.

I recently tried to order something from hostelshoppe, and although my order was never finalized,
ever since I gave them the address "[email protected]" for the order, I've been
getting bombarded with spam sent to that address. About 15 per day. That means that either they are
doing the spamming, or they sell their client database to spammers. Therefore I would like to invite
them to discuss the situation in this public forum. See below some of the more recent examples:

I doubt they directly spam those kinds of adds. It is of course possible that they sell their lists.
Another very real possibility is that spammers completely unafilliated with them are using their
name and or servers. Spammers are evil. (So is our government in regards to considering corporations
and marketers in general as falling under the right to free speech.)

windy day :)

You miss the point. Joao has a domain and can set up any email address to that domain. I do the
same. So if a mail is generated to hostelshoppe@<Joao'sMail Server> He knows the source. If I order
from PerformanceBike I give an email of Performancebike@<Mydomain.com> If I get any spam, I know the
source. Joao can and did trace the source of his spam. Non existant email boxes don't get on lists
except from the only place they are revealed.

While we're on the subject. Paypal apparently shares your adress with junkmailers. They are the only
american company I gave my adress and now I'm getting all those fun offers of subscriptions etc.

Sometimes you americans can be really annoying. ;o)

I just wanted to apologized to Hostelshope for my previous post. I was very tired last night when I
checked my email logs, and completely forgot that recently I did use the spamtrap address on their
"for sale" board, thus making it publicly available. So there is a good chance that a spammer's web
crawling program may have fished it from there.

And let this be a lesson folks. Don't post when you're tired and grumpy at the end of a
stressful day!

Cheers.

Al lives nearby and I can tell you that word spreading fast around here that he has gotten three
cheers from someone in Denmark. He is very encouraged. Is there anything suitable he could run for
over over there? ;-)

If 'the Internet' is the World Wide Web then Tim Berners-Lee, then at CERN (hardly 'America'),
invented it in 1991. E-mail and Usenet predate the WWW a bit but are far less heavily used.

Some 'Americans' can be quite annoying, like Algore, but then so too can some EUsless or what
ever Goebbels claims - or is it Syrup, I never can remember which is nom-de-net and which is the
family name.

Too late. Unless you can run a 'cancel-bot' then the flames - including mine - are on their way.

Interesting thread on Dane Bashing....though I can not see it going beyond the only 2 things
Americans know about Denmark Re: sticky buns and really big dogs. Memorial Day is almost upon
us, the day all Americans thank the lord we are not the French, Danes, Dutch, Polish, Italians,
Greek etc.
