Heart Rate Training Question

Discussion in 'General Fitness' started by Peter Schacknow, Sep 13, 2003.

  1. Yes, I know you wind up running your slow runs more slowly than you're used to but:

I find, on the treadmill at least, that at 60 to 70% of MHR, I'm running at 5 to 5.5 miles per hour,
when I ordinarily run my slowest treadmill runs at 7 mph. And those runs, though they feel like a
    good workout, aren't terribly hard.

I've read and heard quite a bit about the benefits of heart rate training, so I'm going to stick
with it for a while, but I'd like to hear some thoughts on this.

Treadmills suck. Get an eliptical trainer, it's the only workout I've ever done on a machine
that is equal too or better than running. You'll be hard pressed to just standup after an hour
    on one of these.

    Dump the HRM BS.
