HELP! 2 Month cycling trip on the Pamir Highway!

Hello all! I need some advice on buying a bike for my bike trip. We'll be travelling along the pamir highway in central asia and possibly making our way to Mongolia. My partner does not want to be slowed down by a mountain bike but I do not want the frailness of a road bike. We were thinking on getting hybrids but I do not know much of this breed. The road is going to be partially paved (the pamir part) but things will get a bit rough on our way to Mongolia.
Anyways...another wrench in the gears is that i am on a budget. $700 is my limit. Maybe I am crazy but any advice would be appreciated.

yes, your are crazy, $700 is not enough, just a good frame we have need near $700! What about go to second-hand market? i think there may be have some cheap but good hybrids bike, i often can find something good but cheap in the secondhand market
