I'm a mountain biker who wants to start riding the road every now and then.
First, where I'm coming from...when I bought my mountain bike I was swayed (good thing) from buying the department store bike because it's components and assembly are poor quality. Particularly for mountain biking where you're riding over roots, rocks, etc... this really matters.
So enter the world of road biking (and my question)...can I purchase a road bike for rec. use for say $500 or less? And, what about the bikes that you see in the general sporting goods stores? If not new, where (in Canada, Ontario) can one look for a good used bike?
