Hi,
I fitted a set of 07 Record cranks to my bike a few weeks ago. All was fine until today when I began to feel a clunk and then they suddenly disconnected from each other.
I thought that I had ruined them, but when I took them out all the teeth on the axle joint looked fine.
When I had a good look the right hand cup was loose and the bolt down the middle was loose too (first time I've created a major mechanical with my own spannering).
Now I'm a bit wary of correct fitting. After you have put the spring clip in on the right hand side and then slide in the left hand crank should you be able to get a complete solid link when you feel it with your hands?? I tried pushing and thumping with my hand, but I could not get rid of a little play (half a centimetre at the pedal end of crank). I have now tightened the central bolt up very tight and there is no play, but I am worried that something is fundamentally wrong.
My feeling is that I am unable to push the cranks in far enough to get the right position on the hirth joint before tightening.
Any help gratefully accepted.
