I have a frame with a french-threaded bottom bracket shell. I need a new BB as my old one's cooked. The only French BBs I'm aware of are the traditional loose-ball type, and that's fine. I managed to find some Campy Super Record cups in French thread. I have a Sugino Super Maxy double crankset, which I'm reliably told is machined to fit onto Campy spindle tapers rather than Shimano/other Japanese tapers. So far so good. The bike is a 6-speed with 126 spacing, if that matters.
Where I get lost is in how to select the correct Campy BB spindle. There is talk of French cups having thin walls and so needing a spindle with the ridges farther apart than normal.
Can someone help me out? There seem to be so many different Campy spindles out there that I am totally clueless. If someone can just tell me exactly what to look for that'd be great. Many thanks.
Don't have the answer you are looking for on the specific B spindle dimension you reference, but you also need the correct spindle length end of taper to end of taper to match your crank. Sugino use to offer french cups and ISO(campy) spindles. You might get some useful info at the classic and vintage forum at www.bikeforums.net There was a recent thread about the same or similar issue with thin and thick french cups.
