"Mystery over biker's hit and run" in the Norwich Evening News today.
"A man who was knocked off his bike by a hit and run driver today made a
bizarre appeal for help because he has lost his memory and needs somebody to
fill in the missing hours.
Rik Aldridge was left with head injuries and severe bruising on one side of
his body after the smash in Dereham Road, Norwich.
He has no recollection of the accident or the hours that followed due to
concussion.
Mr Aldridge, from Murrels Court, off King Street in the city centre, was
only aware something had happened when he got home and his girlfriend had
called an ambulance.
The 35-year-old had called home in a daze at about 8.30pm on Wednesday and
his worried partner Natalie Taylor, 20, had called the ambulance, hoping he
would turn up at home for treatment.
Mr Aldridge had been returning from work at a warehouse at the Longwater
Lane business park when the accident happened.
"The last thing I remember was being at the Dereham Road roundabout at about
8pm," Mr Aldridge said.
"The next thing is I am arriving home battered and bruised to be met by an
ambulance.
"Apparently I called my girlfriend but I was so dazed I didn't make much
sense so she contacted the emergency services.
"I must have walked back from Dereham Road but I have no memories of it
whatsover.
"We found my bike the next day, it is a complete wreck.
"I want to appeal to anyone who was around that area to come forward if they
saw anything.
"I am in a state because there are a few missing hours and I have no idea
what happened apart from the fact that I was obviously hit by a car and then
the driver left the scene."
Mr Aldridge was taken to the Accident and Emergency department at the
Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital after the crash and he was told he
had concussion.
He then reported the incident to Bethel Street Police Station the following
day.
"I am covered in bruises," Mr Aldridge said. "I was obviously hit on the
left side of my body.
"I just can't believe anyone would do that. Just knock me off my bike and
then leave me.
"I am freaked out I have no memory of it and really hope some ones can help
me put the pieces together."
A spokeswoman for Norfolk Constabulary said: "We have received details of an
incident where a male pedal cyclist reported being in collision with an
unidentified motor vehicle in the vicinity of Dereham Road and Waterworks
Road in Norwich.
"The male believes the collision happened at approximately 8pm on Wednesday,
November 30.
"A police accident report has now been made and we would appeal for anyone
who saw a collision between a pedal cyclist and a vehicle in this area to
contact police on 0845 4564567.""
Somehow I doubt GMTV or the Daily Wail will be running stories on the
4-wheeled menaces...
