Hives and Omega-3

Discussion in 'Food and nutrition' started by Michael Grinnel, Dec 8, 2003.

  1. List,

My cardiologist convinced me about a six weeks ago (despite my being a strict vegetarian) to try
taking fish oil supplements to help bring down high cholesterol and triglycerides. Subsequent to
taking the fish oil I began to get very nasty cases of hives daily. Even after I stopped taking the
fish oil the hives continued and I was able to get them under control with daily doses of Claritin.
I recently decided to try flax seed oil as a source of omega-3 instead of fish oil in case my body
was somehow allergic to marine sources of omega-3. As it turns out, the flax seed oil also appears
to give me hives. Has anyone else ever heard of or experienced such a thing?

    Thanks much,

    Mike
