Holder for 4/3A battery?

A wooden V-trough with a fixed contact for the bottom end of the cell. Use
a hand-held meter probe for the top end.

Grab a hacksaw, cut the D-cell holder into 2 pieces, and use small wood
screws to fasten the 2 pieces to a small stick of wood. I imagine epxoy
and/or hot glue would also work well.

Maybe www.digikey.com or www.mouser.com have something more in tune with
your needs.

A google for "electronic surplus" will return a few hits, but it's a lot
like searching for the needle in the haystack.
