  1. I am immediately beset by horseflies as soon as I hit the driveway for
a run, every day this summer. Does anyone have this [censored] happening to
them? It's disturbing every run I have; I am either pulling the things
out of my hair, swatting them off me, or having them buzz into my ear
as one yet again nets itself in my hair. It happens whether I have my
hair in a ponytail (it's fairly long), loose, or I have a baseball cap
on--do they hate the Red Sox?
I don't smell flowery or bad, my laundry detergent is Tide and I
don't wear bright colors. I have no idea why they are so attracted to
me, except I can see the difference in a crowd--I am always the one
person bugs, not just horseflies, go for first. I hate the little
freaks, about as much as I hate using insect repellant--it's always
getting in my eyes with sweat.

Does anyone have any ideas about what to do about these bugs, or can
name the least eye-stinging bug repellant on the market?

Have you looked at hats with built in mosquito netting, eg,

If you don't put the repellant above your cheekbone, it can't get into your
eyes -- can't you leave your forehead unprotected?

I used one of these for a hike thru the UP a couple years ago. Worked pretty
well. Not perfectly, but there was a significant reduction.

No idea, but I hate them. I've considered dusting my
cap with Off before a run, but mostly I try to run fast
enough that they find another victim.
