  1. 58 years old/130-150 miles a week on my Cannondale.....How do I determine my max hear rate. Thanks in advance

  2. Several ways to do it. The most rudimentary (and most inaccurate) is to do 220-your age. The better ways all involve increasing efforts until "failure" (where you simply can't do any more)--usually on a trainer increasing speed or power output by a certain % or mph every two minutes or so. There are better, more detailed descriptions at many websites that offer training advice, as well as in cycling training books.

  3. The max heart-rate achieved also varies between the testing-method used as well. Some people can hit a higher max running on a treadmill while others get faster speeds on a bike. Mine is 10bpm higher than the 220-age equation, but only from the running test. Somehow riding the bike, I can't hit as high of a max HR for some reason.

typically its harder to get your hr up to max on the bike compared to running.
a great place to determine max hr is in the pool!
