I just started on a job where i am doing 33miles to work and 33 back, 66 a day in total.
This is from glasgow to stirling in scotland, mon-fri.
It is quite mad during rush hour traffic.
Just wondering how far all you people cycle to your work?

Cheers
John

I ride minimum of 4.5 one way x 2 = 9.0 total. Times average of 3 days a week x 9 = 27 miles a week. This is minmum distance. So on the average I guess I must ride about 30 to 35 miles per week. You can visit my web site to more info. My web site is only to share my cycling experiences.

Thanks
Tpritch :D

that's a hell of a commute tatty.
I ride 4 miles in and 4 miles back, just started cycling/commuting last week though. I try to ride further in the evening though just for fun if the sunlight allows it. I'm lucky b/c about 95% of my commute is along a fairly nice bike path.

I've done 25 in worse conditions. Mornings were not too bad and with showers with full length lockers, it was easier. The afternoons were a bear in the 100 F (38 C) weather. When I got home, I showered outside from the garden hose sprayer.

I sometimes motorpaced behind delivery vans who abided by the speed limit of 35 MPH, never latching on for a free pull. I have sprinted to 40 MPH in such conditions but only for short pulls.

My best time, traffic lights included, was one hour.

Wow! That's one hell of a commute. Great job! Keep it up. I ride to work whenever possible. Exactly 10 miles each way.

That is a monster commute. I'm a little envious. I do 7 1/2 miles into work and take the scenic route home at 20 miles exactly. So 27 1/2 every day 5 times a week. I've missed a few days here and there, but for the most part, if it's not really windy or monster thunderstorms expected that day, I'm riding.

Just in the gas savings, I'm sure my bike has paid for itself already.

I couldn't get the motivation to ride to work, so I sold my car. Now I'm motivated. Starting last January, I ride, depending which path I take, between 10.8 and 20.3, for a total of a little over 180 miles a week.

66 a day in intense, you have me beat.

I ride about 15 miles each way. In the winter, I wish it were shorter. :( In the summer, I wish it were longer. :)

I live only about 3 miles from work, but extend my morning commute to 10 - 14 miles depending on how I feel and how quickly I can get out of the house. Then it's a 6 mile round trip with a quick bite to eat at lunch, and usually just the 3 miles back home after my typical 13 hour (two job) workday. So I figure I'm averaging 19 to 23 miles per day. BTW, this is on a cheapo mountain bike with 2" road slicks.

Normally it's 24km in, 27km back, four times a week (drive in once a week to refresh clothing etc.) But if I skip a riding day for some reason, or if it's just such a great day outside and my legs feel up to it, I'll go for longer -- the longest routes I can take are 36km in, 43km home.

I'm nowhere near saving the money in gas savings, because I keep on buying new bits for my bike.. :D

I ride to work because it's fun, it saves me from dealing with stop-start peak hour traffic (and inner city parking), and it's a good way to get some exercise into the day for "free" time-wise. If a bike cost as much (and polluted as much) as a car, I'd still do it. Those factors are just icing on the cake to me.

hi everybody i'm new here...

I cycled nearly 9 miles everyday to work...but riding a bike to work is kinda odd in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) here people don’t ride a bicycle in the city ...and the traffic is terrifying…so I’m having one hard time doin’ it but still…I love it. :)

whan i can be arsed i ride from home to work...there are two routes to choose from, the main road/dual carriageway which is about 14 miles each way and a rural single track road which is about 18 miles each way and very hilly...

Good topic, and an awesome commute you have there! I've driven that once, what roads do you take?

I commute 11 miles each way, much faster than in the car, and a little slower than taking the train.

My route just now is i get onto the A803 which starts quite close to my house then take that right out past Bishopbriggs, Kirkintilloch and Kilsyth, then i take a left at Dennyloanhead onto the A872 and that takes me right into stirling. The route is quite a long one but im quite enjoying it while its nice and dry outside...

Thanks
John

It usually takes me around 1 hour 50mins depending on the wind direction which is an average of around 18mph according to my bike computer.
Im currently riding a Specialised Mountain bike, but im going to be getting a road bike soon which should improve my time.
Some of the people in my work think im mental, but if i get two trains and a bus (i dont have a car) then it takes around 1 hour 30mins and costs me £11.50 a day, no competition. :)

It takes 1-1.5 hours depending on headwind and amount of sleep I get the night before.

Wow,

That just goes to show that you Scots are Crazy:p

I commute about 20 miles a day , have done it on and off for the past 12 years ( since I gave up smoking) .

To make life easier (and because I am getting old and falling apart) , I experimented with electric propulsion for a while , which was ok but not fantastic , and I got so fit hauling around 2 heavy batteries that I didn't need the electric assistance anymore:rolleyes:

Good luck with your long distance commuting

Hi John,

I clock a 35km (22-miles) a day to work and back - I have to contend with the South-Easter from hell in the afternoons - luckily no real traffic to speak off seeing as I live out in the boondocks.

Ciao,
Steve
