How good is KHS?

I saw nothing but good remarks about the frame construction on mtbr.com:

The components got mixed reviews, but you can always replace those if and when they break. Overall rating of 4.22/5 is fairly high, but there are only 9 reviews.

Somebody else out there know anything more?

KHS is kind of a funny company. KHS has tried to position its bikes kind of as budget-minded racers. Most of the complaints about KHS have been about questionable component package choices. Companies like Trek, Specialized, Cannondale and what was GT have always been very good at selecting a solid component line up which matches the price point of the bike.

If you buy a $1000 Trek, you can pretty much be sure that all of the components are at the $1000 bike level. KHS on the other hand frequently throws on a very weak component that does not match the price point of the bike, and the one low end component seems to become the a negative focus for that bike.

Frame wise, KHS's seem to be solid. Nothing too flashy, just a good all-around performace to $$$ spent ratio. Take a look at a KHS, and see if there is a sketchy part(s) in your mind, and then just remember that you will have to replace that part(s) sometime down the road. And after you have upgrade the sketchy part(s), you should be left with a solid bike.

I bought a KHS about two weeks ago. It's a floor model that never sold. It's a '97 model. Back then it listed for $699. I purchased it for $350. It has Deore LX components. I like the frame. Seems solid. I emailed the company twice. Once about stickers. The other time I gave them the serial number and asked the year of the bike. Both emails were replied to within 24 hours. I like KHS so far.
