My second home is less than 90 minutes to the Canadien border. I was not really upset at him per se. Just that I don't judge what others do in their own countires so I do not appreciate when someone judges ours (on domestic issues..intl issues is fair game LOL)

I own a gun and the applicable gun license which is very difficult to obtain nowadays. Gun laws in South Africa have tightened over the years, due to our ever-increasing crime rate. Truth be told, I'd feel safer having my gun on me when riding but I'm also worried about any mishaps that may occur. I once was stopped at an intersection by the police where a robbery took place nearby. Everyone in the vicinity was searched, folks that carry guns are treated with suspicion and contempt.

I commute to work on my bike 24 miles per day. I also use it for errands and just riding for fun. All told, if I'm not heading to the mountains, I generally ride 7 days a week. I don't get on the bike without my Kit Bag. It's the best way I've found to carry concealed.
At first I was concerned that a chest bag, combined with the leaning-forward position on the bike, would be uncomfortable -- that the weight would feel like it was pulling me forward. I haven't found that to be the case. (For reference, I carry a G19 and spare mag.) I bought the Kit Bag in September of last year, have been riding with it ever since, and find it to be perfectly comfortable. This is on a road bike. When I ride in the drops, my thighs will come up and bump the kit bag slightly on the upstroke. I could see how that would become annoying if you spend a lot of time down there. I ride on the hoods about 90% of the time anyway, so for me that hasn't been an issue. If you're on something with flat bars, like a mountain bike, then you'll definitely be good to go.

I had no idea that there were people that would even consider a gun to be part of their cycling equipment, honestly. I for one do not have a licence to own a gun in the first place, but even then I would not take one with me for cycling; that's a bit too far to me. Aside from the fact that I'd be scared of some sort of accident happening, I don't think it would be easy to conceal most types of guns while cycling, nor do I feel it is necessary for me. I bike almost entirely in the city and it would be unreasonable for me to have a gun with me as I bike around.
Plus, I'm only 19 years old. It would probably be pretty weird from a 19-year-old girl to be riding around her bike with a gun, ready for action. :huh:

BTW, those are select-fire (full auto and semi-automatic) STG-90 machineguns/assault rifles on their backs as the pedal towards a shooting competition. I'm pretty sure those ladies know firearm safety inside and out and are not the least bit worried about an accident involving handling their weapons. A road accident on the bikes? Possibly.

@CAMPYBOB, I love the photo of those girls with guns. However, I don't have a gun and I don't intend to buy one because I am afraid of guns. In case there is an intruder or I would be assaulted in the street, I don't think I can fire a gun to protect myself. My best bet is to call for help. But again, I love to see women protecting themselves whether with guns or martial arts.
This thread just keeps getting better. FYI I'm just looking for information to help me understand the American mentality. Ya'll don't get mad now, sometimes my brains not fully thawed and I say something that might hurt feelings. They are just feelings don't worry it goes away.

America is unique. Guns are not part of our cuture per se, though some would argue it is. The bottom line is SCOTUS and other courts have upheld the basic beleif that one is allowed to carry and bare arms. It is in out Constitution. That makes America unique right there.
We, as a nation, are in disagreement onwhat the exact meaning of the 2A is. I personally beleive that it mean unrestricted freedom to own and carry firearms. The fact that many states require a liscense to conceal carry is IMO stupid and against the 2A.

Just don't arm it before. If you drop it it might get armed. Having an accidental shot is not so easy... Maybe its a bit easier to have an accidental loading of a round with rifles that arm easily, like m4's and m16's.
That's why I like double action pistols... Revolvers might be a bit more dangerous if you drop them... F@ckin love them though.

I traded them for a 1967 Triumph Spitfire with rusted out control arm mounts, a faulty heater control valve and a leaking clutch master cylinder back in 1974.
I still think I got the better end of that deal. I prefer logic and rational thought to emotions.

Yeah, some are and some are not. An old 9-shot .22 LR Hi-Standard is best carried with the hammer over an empty chamber. Modern firearms with a hammer blocking transfer bar or other such safety is a bit more drop-proof. I still duck when I see any firearm headed for the deck.
