How many of you carry a gun as part of your cycling equipment?

If you're willing to carry a gun, you should also be willing to wear a bulletproof vest in accordance with Kant's categorical imperative:
"Act only according to that maxim whereby you can, at the same time, will that it should become a universal law."

If anyone actually bothered to read thru this thread (or any of the various sites that list the results of citizens defending themselves with firearms) and the other firearm thread running on this forum you might have found hundreds of events in which a firearm in the hands of a good man or woman saved their lives and protected their property from those criminal 'masterminds'.

I'll take make chances WITH a firearm and give myself every advantage possible.

I'll also take the training and hone the mindset to go with it.

Re-read the story about the Pennsylvania cyclist that was attacked and knocked off his bike, at speed, and set upon by three ghetto rats. Even while injured and still being beaten it is very possible for even an 'old man' to successfully defend himself.

I think people tend to over-estimate the "planning" that goes into the average street crime. Most are impulsive crimes of opportunity. Take the three idiots that Bob mentioned. No planning, no thought, just an impulsive spur of the moment opportunity. That's why most of them are so easily caught. The thought that the guy walking alone, down the street and looking like an easy mark, might be armed never enters their heads.

Yup...many, if not most, criminals are not rocket surgeons.

Many are bombed out of their minds on booze and/or drugs and it's possible they have significant physical and mental defects due to their abusive life choices.

5 shot/wounded and 1 shot/deceased in Cleveland last night. They're already pulling the trigger first and asking questions after the chalk outline is painted. At the very least I want the option of returning fire.

In Canton, Ohio last week, a gas station attendant was set upon by three armed thugs. The ghetto rats scored two hits on the employee...one in the leg, one in the hip. The victim was still able to reach his pistol, return fire and KILL two of the would-be robbers and attempted murderers. The third suspect escaped and was captured this week.

I'll post a link to the story in a minute.

I noticed the hundreds of documented news stories of guns being used defensively at the bottom of the page: http://gunssavelives.net/browse-by-state/

It was disheartening to read the story of a young man in my home state who is being charged with manslaughter after he shot one of five armed intruders breaking into his house.

It is a sad affair when one has to fear the state as much as the criminal breaking into their home.

There is always the possibility home invaders will leave without harming the tenants. That was unfortunately not the case for Stephanie Neiman who was beaten, bound, shot, and then buried while still alive.

Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

Sadly, the 12 moranz that get seated on the jury are probably the ones that were too stoopid to get out of jury duty and they hold your fate in their hands.

And yes, Dan, I do fear the insane resources and corruption of the State just as much or more than I fear the common criminal. Some states are better than others when it comes to right to defend oneself from thugs, but...

My rights come from no man. By no State. They were granted to me by my creator. I'm too old to take an ass-kicking and I never was much good at running.

BTW, the local gas station guy that killed the two robbers? He's hailed around here as a hero. There are a couple of funds/donation sites to cover his expenses and many of us have volunteered free replacement ammunition. A local gun shop gave him a new pistol as the police took his as evidence. The local thug families have made threats against his life...I hope he received some tactical training as a donation. He just might need it in the future.

Because we are free men. With Freedom that was hard won at the pointy end of gun barrels.

And...

Any other questions?

This is a cycling forum. There are plenty of other forums where conservatives can rant about 'libtards' and 'the blacks'. Why here?

Why not? As you can plainly read there are many that carry a gun as part of their cycling equipment.

So...how long have you voted the socialist ticket?

I have never voted... Why not? Have you ever considered that it might make some members uncomfortable that you've turned this forum into your personal political soapbox? I can imagine that it's especially a deterrent for new members. "Woah, I came here for advice on what road bike to buy. What the hell is this?"

I see. That makes perfect sense.

"Why not? Have you ever considered that it might make some members uncomfortable that you've turned this forum into your personal political soapbox?"

I could give two ***** about someone's "comfort". But, I won't. For someone that doesn't vote you sure seem overly concerned with politics. But feel free not to click on or read things with "GUN" in the title that might make your emotional state more upset. That just might be the rational thing to do.

"I can imagine that it's especially a deterrent for new members. "Woah, I came here for advice on what road bike to buy. What the hell is this?""

It's free advice on carrying a firearm as part of your personal cycling equipment. It is valuable information to many. And it's also the most popular post on the equipment forum. It does NOT purport to be nor represent itself as a thread on which road bike to buy. Anyone that can read their way through the 13-word thread title (that appears to be easily understood Engrish on my computer screen) would know that much.

Oh...and the forum DOES have a separate sub-forum entitled: "Bike Buying Advice". You know...the one people generally click on for advice on which road bike to buy?

You have been out-voted, non-voter. But, this being 'Merica and all, we'll still listen to your sage advice on firearms and cycling in a thread so titled.

"I'm offended by something right-wingers like! It must be banned! They're guilty of hate crimes!"

Let's get something straight--without civilians bearing arms, there is no freedom of speech. I think it was the biggest mistake the Founders made--Amendment No. 2 should have been first.
