LOL! Guess I'm and idiot! Thanks for the compliment! <smirk> Don't forget SOME of us are somewhat familiar with the sport and enjoyed many good years racing before getting side track with RL issues. Now at 47, I see no reason to buy a bike LESS capable than my old circa 1974 Colnago racing bike and with the difficulty in getting parts let alone decent parts, it only made sense to step up and get a new one. Sure I could have bought something less than my Trek 5500, but then I would have just bought another in a year if I did.wardie2000 said:Got 2 bikes, one which i picked up for £50($90, i think). 20yrs old. Makes a brilliant training bike, mudgaurds, lights etc.
My other bike which a sponsor paid for half and i paid the other half is worth about £2000($3500). That bike is used for racing and selected training sessions.
I have a TT bike on the way from a sponsor, hence my other post, i don't know what to choose.
But i am a firm belivier in it doesn't matter the price of the bike it is the legs that pedal it. It is said the Eddy Mercx could have won the TdF even on a shopping bike!!
Anyone i think that goes straight into the sport buying an expensive bike is an idiot. It shows little respect for those who have had to work their way to where they are now.
From reading the posts on this topic everyone seems pretty sensible.
Remember its not the bike its the legs
Don't worry about the price, at a recent race the winner was riding a $350 bike, and he smoked the guy on the $5000 all-carbon Dura-Ace Trek in the final sprint.Mike_Rides_Red said:I bought a Trek 1500 for $1000 a year ago and thought it was a high end bike until i went to my first race. Everyone had bikes $3000 plus and made my bike look low end to all these carbon Beauties. So how much is your bike?

I bought a used Bianche Reparto Corsa ALuminum XL (Mercatone uno/Pantani style) Fit it with Campy Centaur used 30 year old Campy brakes ect. I have cheap wheels on it from ebay. I think I have spent less than 1100.TheDL said:Hahahaha....my bike is circa 1988. Minus accessories it cost about $470. Bought it used and upgraded some stuff, Shimano 600/Ultegra and I still stare at it!
