i just got a bike with 2003 XTR, but the brake have to be pull very close to the handlebar in order to have the bike stopped, how can i short the brake travel distance and make the brake with a sharp response? will this be diffcult since it is a disc brake?
thanks

That could be a sign of a bad fluid bleeding job. XTR hydro levers should have a nice firm feel with a very short throw when bled correctly. Anyway, there is a small screw on the side of the lever pivot (look and the lever from the side) that adjusts the reach of the lever. Push it out and see if it was just set too far in.

thnaks, that's mean i have air in my brake line? since the bike is brand new, i will take it back to the shop for re bleed, but will it take a long time re bleed?

Its a possibility, the lever should not move more than around 1/3 of its travel before engaging. How far in towards the bar does it move before engaging?

about an inche, how diffcult is is to bleed the lines myself, where can i find a step by step guide?
thanks
