I am after some local information about good bike parking spots in Hull,
Doncaster, Grimbsy and Cleethorpes. Can any locals fill me in about good
spots to lock up my bike when I visit these towns? I am basically looking
for a good spot to park up for the day when making a visit to the town
centres (or the beach in the case of Cleethorpes).

Reply via email (watch spam trap) if you don't want to give away a
particularly good place (bike thieves are everywhere!). Thanks in advance
for any advice.

I can only speak for Hull here. There are plenty of Sheffield Stands
around the city centre, but like any other big city, if you've
something worth stealing, somebody might have a go at nicking it. When
I'm walking around the city centre, I take my bike with me at all
times, but if you really must leave it somewhere, I'd choose The Deep's
cycle parking area on the river front.

It's out of the way of the city centre Chavs and most of the visitors
will be museum going types, not the local Neds. You can find the
location of The Deep on this cycle map.

Don't forget to have a pint in the Ye Olde Black Boy down our cobbled
High Street:

or the Minerva, just across the footbridge from The Deep:

Good luck and enjoy your stay.

Doncaster is blessed with hardly any bike parking facilities and to be
honest I wouldn't like to leave my bike unattended for long even if it was
locked bolted and barred. Keep it with you

As Trevor (Pinky) says, Doncaster is blessed with people who'll steal it
from under your nose.

If it's just for an odd day you could leave it at our house, chained to our
newly installed feckorf fencing ...(I'm caretaker at a school just outside
Doncaster) and take the local shuttle train in, which is (was) much nicer
than the buses.

Takes between 10 and 15 or so minutes and costs £0.80 single, £0.90 cheap
day return or £1.30 standard day return. Makes more sense for us than using
the cars. ;) They run roughly every 30 minutes depending on day and time
etc.
